USAF vs the Texas Mosquito

Even if you’ve never been to Texas, you have probably heard the jokes about how big the local mosquitoes are. If you’ve ever actually been to Texas, you have probably born the battle scars from the beasts. If you’ve ever been lucky enough to live in Texas, you know that we pretty much have to walk around packing heat to defend ourselves from the sky born menace. When I was little, Pops used to joke that the "skeeters" were big enough to swoop down and carry off pets and small children.

Now, at long last, our government is coming to the rescue. Announcements came Tuesday morning that the U.S. Air Force has been called in to blast these critters from the skies.

Southeast Texas officials are calling in the Air Force to battle salt-grass mosquitoes breeding at high rates since Hurricane Rita.

Jefferson County Commissioner Mark Domingue says salt-grass mosquitoes are breeding in some areas at more than ten times the normal rate.

He says the mosquitoes are attacking workers -- even during the day -- while they try to restore power and repair damage from the storm.

It’s about time our government finally stepped in and protected us from this evil menace!

Heh. Pretty good, Songbird. Any ideas when skeeter-hunting season opens? We always try to bag a few during opening weekend, before the biggest ones are too picked-over.

I like the new digs, man!

Tell Pops I said hi!

Thanks, Ken, and welcome to the new place. Ma'am and Pops are coming over for dinner (and mostly to see the kids) tomorrow night. I'll pass along the word.

Good practice for the Air Force.

I don't know if you knew this, but these Air Force units that spray from planes for skeeters are chemical warfare units.

Too bad they aren't using them for pest control on Iran right now. I wonder what spray works best on Islamo roaches?
